Tall Tales

5th grade students became experts in Tall Tales at the end of 2009.  They read all sorts of great stories about very interesting characters.

We used the web based program glogster to create web based posters about our favorite Tall Tales.  We used our glog to tell about the story and all of the story elements found in Tall Tales.  Check some out:

Damanpreet and Anjali

Kayla and Deepak

The following Glogs are from Ms. Shah’s class.  They did their unit on Grimm Fairy Tales.  Grimm Fairy Tales are much different then the normal fairy tales.  These glogs represent stories that they have written themselves.

MILESTONES OF AMERICAN HISTORY

5th Grade students have been working hard in their study of American History.  The focus has been greatly on the creation of America, influential people, important acts/laws, and nation shaping battles.

One of the most important documents in American history is the Declaration of Independence.  Watch the video from brainpop.com on the Declaration of Independence.

Picture 1

Discuss these follow questions in your blog comment.

  • What was the purpose of the Continental Congress?

  • Why was Thomas Paine’s pamphlet Common Sense influential?  What did it state?

  • The declaration was separated into three parts.  What where they?

  • What exactly do we celebrate on July 4th?

Remember to use facts to support your ideas, facts from the video as well as facts from things you have learned in your class.  Use details and edit your comment before you submit it.

The Presidential election of 2008 has been very historical.  Barack Obama was elected the next President of the United States of America.

Share your thoughts about the election:

  • Did you have any experiences with the election?  For example: going to vote with your parents
  • What does the election of Barack Obama mean to the United States?
  • What does the election of Barack Obama mean to you?

There’s a Boy in the Girl’s Bathroom

Over the past week, we have been reading There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom by Louis Sachar.  Throughout the book there have been several hidden messages contained in the guidance counselor’s advice.  Which message do you feel is the most important in the story?  Explain.
